D2 – Nevidio Canyon
Tara rafting camp Encijan - Tara Canyon
Overview
Do you want to test your limits? Are you ready to walk for hours through the narrow, dark corridors of a canyon, swim in icy-cold water, and descend down steep, slippery rocks? This package is designed for adventurers who are determined, believe in their abilities, and want to experience the Nevidio Canyon.
Mysterious and challenging, the Nevidio Canyon is the perfect choice for adventurers, adrenaline junkies, the brave, the persistent, and true nature lovers. Discovered in 1965, the Nevidio Canyon is a genuine jewel of Durmitor National Park. The canyon is 4.5 km long and 2–3 meters wide. Its name speaks for itself: you cannot see what is unseen ("nevidio" meaning "unseen"), evoking a mystical inaccessibility and the very reason it remained hidden from the human eye for so long. If you are ready to embark on this adventure, you must know that everyone who decides to enter the canyon and begin descending its galleries, cascades, and waterfalls cannot give up and turn back, but must make it through the entire canyon.
Itinerary
We welcome guests at an agreed location, such as our Encijan agency in the town of Foča or our camp in the very heart of the Tara canyon, in the morning (the recommended time is between 9am and 10am). Upon arrival at the entrance to the Nevidio canyon, there is a short coffee break and preparation for entry. As part of the preparations for entry, each tour participant receives the appropriate canyoning gear (a long-sleeved, long-legged wetsuit, boots, and a safety helmet). After a short briefing about the adventure ahead and a mini course in the basics of mountaineering, we head toward the canyon entrance, guided and accompanied by experienced climbers and certified guides, members of the Mountain Rescue Service. The entry into the canyon itself is not too demanding, and thanks to the fairly accessible terrain we have the chance, over the first 300-400 meters, to get used to and adapt to the canyon's unique environment, and also to give some people a chance to think it over carefully! :-) After that come the first more serious steps and the first more serious obstacles, namely descending cascades and waterfalls. Over the next 2-3 hours we pass through, swim, wade, and dive through numerous narrows, that is, narrow corridors and pools that mother nature and the force of water have carved and hollowed out over centuries, and we have the chance to come across such natural works of art that take our breath away at first glance. Halfway through, somewhere in the heart of the canyon, we take a short "energy break," where with raisins, figs, and almonds we try to recover the energy we have lost and make up for the lack of sugar burned along with all that adrenaline constantly coursing through our veins. After the break, refreshed and emboldened by everything we have endured and gotten through so far, we continue on, ready... And after roughly another 1-2 hours spent in the same "mix" of climbing, jumping into turbulent whirlpools from several meters up, swimming through gorges, descending rocks and waterfalls with or without ropes, and of course the ever-present adrenaline, we reach the other side of the canyon! Upon exiting the canyon, a group lunch is arranged for all tour participants at a nearby ethno restaurant, after which we return by off-road vehicles to the morning starting point, i.e. our home base.
Highlights
Have you been thinking for a while about the most original way to delight a loved one and treat them to yet another extraordinary surprise — for their upcoming birthday, perhaps your wedding or relationship anniversary!? Or maybe you simply feel the need to thank someone dear and close to you, and once again show them in a special way how much they mean to you... If you are thinking about all of this, perhaps we — in the form of one of our "tourism gift vouchers" and a "package deal for two" — can help you resolve these dilemmas :)
