Overview
If you are a fan of off-road driving, undiscovered and inaccessible terrain, and wilderness, then a jeep safari tour will be a true delight for you. Enjoy the beauty of the Sušica, Piva, and Tara canyons and other breathtaking places. The Durmitor Ring, roughly 80 km long, is a drive around the rugged mountain peaks of Durmitor and a unique opportunity to capture all of this incredible beauty in a single day.
During the jeep safari tour around the Durmitor range, you will ride in high-quality, modern off-road vehicles along the slopes of the Tara and Piva river canyons and descend into the Sušica canyon. The "Durmitor Ring" tour is the ideal way to see numerous mountain peaks at once, without spending much time or energy. Driving through villages, over passes, and across valleys and summits, you will have the chance to meet the local people, taste their traditional cuisine, buy homemade products, and learn more about life in this rugged environment. During this one-day excursion we will make several stops so you can enjoy the surreal landscapes. The most famous viewpoints are marked and set up as picnic spots, with tables placed on plateaus that offer views of the mountain peaks. With every new kilometre you travel, you will be amazed again and again by the unreal scenery, authentic rural landscapes, and pristine nature. Here, a way of life lived in harmony with nature has remained unchanged for hundreds of years, and the "Durmitor Ring" tour gives you the chance to glimpse it and, at least for a moment, become a part of it.
Itinerary
After meeting guests for the tour at a previously agreed location, such as our Encijan agency in the town of Foča or our camp in the very heart of the Tara River canyon, in the morning hours (recommended time between 9 and 10 a.m.). After arrival we set off for the Šćepan Polje border crossing towards the Sušica canyon, passing through the villages of Nikovići and Nedajno (it is worth noting that these two villages are among the most sparsely populated places in the Balkans). After arriving and taking a short break for photos in the Sušica canyon, we continue our journey through Mali Mornar and reach Žabljak. From Žabljak the route leads us through the villages of Pisće and Vojinovići, where we reach the very heart of Durmitor, where you will be able to see untouched nature, with Durmitor's highest peak Bobotov Kuk at 2,522 m above sea level, as well as several glacial lakes that we are sure you will photograph. After a photo break we continue our journey through the village of Trsa, towards Plužine along the shore of Lake Piva and the Piva River. There our safari ends and we slowly head back to Šćepan Polje and our Encijan camp, where you will have the chance to enjoy the traditional organic cuisine for which we are well known. After lunch, your tour comes to an end. You can also extend this tour with an additional overnight stay at our Encijan camp, in a unique oasis of peace and hedonism on a half-board basis, or combine it with any of the other tours from our offer.
